I find that online competitions and CTFs(Capture the Flags) are a great way to broaden your experience in security. I find this especially important if you have not had a lot of hands on experience or work related experience! Whether you want to be an administrator, pen tester, cybersecuirty expert, etc.. it is important to keep you skills sharp and online competitions are a great way to do it as well as having some fun!

Below are a few competitions I have participated in:
Cyber Aces (last year and going to this year)
USCC (US Cyber Challenge)
CyberQuests (last year and will again this year)
NYU Poly Tech Annual CTF (This year)

If you are not familiar with any of these look them up!
I have also posted to websites that you can test out some of your skills

Here is a competition that you can use to test your security skills in!
The competition is currently active and will close on January 6th 2014. The competition I believe is hosted by counterhackchallenge and is partnered with SANS. The grand prize winner of this competition will win a voucher to take one of the upcoming SANS courses tough at SANS CyberCon this year... FOR FREE!
Follow the link below to the competition page, read the introduction and download the pcap file.

I hope a few of you do it, Enjoy!
